Month 2 in Summary

Greetings from Sofia, Bulgaria. Today we celebrate our 2nd month anniversary of travelling so here's a re-cap of weeks 4 - 8

 Places visited

Croatia - Pula, Split & Dubrovnik
Bosnia - Sarajevo & Mostar
Montenegro - Kotor
Macedonia - Lake Ohrid, Bitola & Skopje
Bulgaria - Sofia

 Favourite places

First place this month goes to Lake Ohrid in Macedonia. We can't describe how amazing this place is. It has beauty, culture, sightseeing, sunbathing, great food & drink and it is so ridiculously cheap. If it had better night life and a rock bar or 2 we'd probably still be there now.

Very close runner up is Dubrovnik in Croatia. We loved Dubrovnik so much probably due to the Game of Thrones link, we definitely would have loved it anyway but maybe not quite as much. It is an unbelievable sight to see and as Croatia aren't in the Euro (yet) food & drink is quite cheap as well. Walking the walls and climbing up the St Lawrence Fortress was a great way to spend a few hours as was watching the sunset with a beer.

Surprisingly our 3rd favourite place was Mostar in Bosnia. It was quite unexpected and we only went here to break the journey up going to Montenegro but we both really liked it. The town is gorgeous, the locals friendly, food delicious and it is super cheap.

Best bits

Game of Thrones day was soooo much fun for us. Instead of paying a local 50 euros each to show us where parts of the programme were filmed Russell found it all on the internet. Walking round for hours spotting these places and taking photos was ace.

Pula Rocks - This was the metal festival right outside our apartment in Pula, Croatia. We had a great night watching the bands and chatting to the guys from our apartment. We were out till about 5.30am but still managed to sightsee the next day (unlike in Zagreb)

Lake Ohrid apartment - we left a 6 bed dorm in Kotor, Montenegro and went to a private apartment overlooking Lake Ohrid, it was almost a culture shock, and it was cheaper! I honestly think that apartment was near perfect, i just had the biggest smile every time I walked on the balcony.

Bad Times

Realising we had travelled in the wrong direction with a really crappy journey & really long passport control to get to an unappealing Sarajevo was probably the lowest point of the last 2 months. It did all work out ok though and we ended up going to Mostar but the night we realised & the following morning were awful.

We got a bus from Pula to Split because the ferry was broken and it was supposed to be 10 hours. After 10 loooooong hours we got our bags together and were expecting to arrive any minute. That didn't happen - it was another 2 and a half hours till we got there. It wouldn't have been so bad if we had known but sitting there for 2 & a half hours thinking we were arriving at any point really took it out of us.

Best thing we ate

Defintiely the truffle pizza from Jupiter Pizzeria in Pula, Croatia. Bearing in mind the whole reason we went to Pula was to try this pizza it's a good job we had it 3 times in 24 hours.

Coming up in month 3
In month 3 we will be in Bulgaria & Istanbul then flying to India where we are looking to spend 4 - 6 weeks.
