Penang, Malaysia.

Ten hour train journey from KL. Arrived in a place with a humorous name. Butterworth. This name was left behind from the British colonial days I assumed. We spent the night here & in the morning caught the commuter ferry to Georgetown. No accommodation booked we hopped on to a free bus which circles the city. Jumping off at what appeared to be & turned out to be the city centre. After walking around in the midday sun & checking out a hotel which was obviously far beyond our budget (£800 over the budget). We settled on a place which was in fact the first hotel we enquired at.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Gemma & Cat had booked the worst accommodation we had stayed in since our first few days in Delhi. The place was rank. It was in China town. And like almost all china towns. It was a hole. Once we had ditched our bags we headed to the monorail to check out the Petronas Towers which were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 - 2004. Today they are still the tallest twin buildings. I remember watching one of those really boring "how do they do that" shows. The bridge that links the two It is not attached to either structure. It is designed to slide in and out of the towers to prevent it from breaking.

Koh Lanta - sunsets, buckets & a bamboo tattoo

Koh Lanta has been high on my list for a long time. I read a lot about it & Sterry raved about the place - if anyone knows Koh Lanta it's Sterry so I was really excited to go. Imagine my surprise when Gemma told me she's been and didn't like it, so much so that she left after 1 night! But Gemma being the laid back chick that she is was happy to go back & give it another go - I'm pretty sure she's glad she did.

Month 7 in Review

Helo from Langkawi, Malaysia. Yesterday we celebrated our 7 month anniversary, and what a month it has been. Here's a re-cap.

Koh Phi Phi. The one with the beach

From Whore Island we headed to Koh Phi Phi. The drunken injuries were really starting to mount up. I blame the stupid  boat trip on NYE. If I still had those Converse I would not have been forced to party in flip flops for a week. Flip flops which were too small.

Patong, Phuket. Or as I like to call it - Whore Island.

Like with Koh San Road in BKK there is plenty of night life here. But unlike Koh San Road, there are lots of ladies of the night. Where as BKK does have its fair share of prostitution, it's not in your face. Its not everywhere. Even for the seasoned Thailand traveller, Patong can be a bit much.

Ao Nang, Krabi - great beach & 1 mega crazy Thai dude

We checked out of our bungalow in Koh Phangan on 3rd January - we thought we'd need a few days of recovery after the full moon party. Our friend Gemma was meeting us in Patong, Phuket on the 7th January so we had to choose somewhere to go in between. In the end we decided on Krabi as it looked close to Phuket & easy to get to. So we got a boat & then a bus to Ao Nang in Krabi.

The one with the full moon party that wasn't a full moon. Ko Pha Ngan

Knackered from the 53 hour travel day we tried to check into our beach hut, The "receptionist" asked what it was that we wanted? Why are you here? Erm you have a hotel & we need a room, you idiot! What the hell do you think I want!? And we have a booking. Douchebag.

The plan - healthy living leading up to New years eve. The result - drinking with Vicki and Chris and their new cool Germans friends all night, on the 1st night!

The one with the 53 hour day

Christmas songs had finally come to an end. See ya next year Kirsty MacColl. Farewell Sterry. Partners in crime forever. Man those guys rule! And so began our journey from Vang Vieng Laos to Koh Phangan Thailand. This was on 27/12/13 at 9:30. Now, This happened 3 weeks ago so things do seem a little hazy. bus rides, some were VIP Guns and Roses style. Some were not. Long lay overs. 14 hours in Koh San road was the largest. I am beginning to know the place like the back of my hand! Half way through I did look like the above pic of Peter Griffin though.
