Month 7 in Review

Helo from Langkawi, Malaysia. Yesterday we celebrated our 7 month anniversary, and what a month it has been. Here's a re-cap.

Places visited -

Laos - Vang Vieng
Thailand - Ao Nang, Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta
Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur, Penang & Langkawi

Favourite place

First place this month goes to Koh Phi Phi. We really loved this small island, even though our bungalows were up a huge steep hill right at the top of the island. On Koh Phi Phi there are no vehicles which was really good. We had the best day trip of our lives and the night life was awesome.

Runners up are Vang Vieng which we have already posted about & plan to return to as we didn't have long enough there & Koh Lanta. We really liked the laid back atmosphere of Koh Lanta, the beach was really nice and we found a really cool bar with cheap drinks, a cute dog and a good bamboo tattooist.

Best bits

Gemma's visit - it was ace catching up with Gemma for 10 days, we haven't seen her since our leaving do in July last year and she always creates a party

Spending Christmas with Sterry - this was nice as it kind of made it feel more christmassy. We all sat next to our little tree that Russ created drinking sparkling wine and opening presents.

The best day out ever - The trip from Koh Phi Phi was seriously ace. We only wanted to go to 'The Beach' but you had to do the full trip but we are so glad we did.

Koh Lanta sunsets - I had heard about these but they really are awesome. Even on an overcast day there was a spectacular sunset.

The day on the jeep in Koh Phangan was loads of fun. We went to a waterfall and a very secluded beach. I didn't get to drive cos of my toe but I didn't want to anyway so that was a bonus, we loved sitting in the back outside bit & it was fun standing up when we were going really fast.

Bad Times

Dislocating my toe on Christmas day wasn't much fun - next time I'm presented with a cave I will refuse to go inside.

Jumping off the back of the jeep & getting dragged across the road made my toe a lot worse and cut my foot up a bit which is still healing.

Russell's injuries have been a pain in the arse and very painful for him. He fell over at some point and cut his leg really deep, it is still causing problems now but it's healing well all in all. The issue is that we carried on partying & abusing ourselves with a lot of beer so he was never healthy enough to recover - same with my foot as well really.

Best thing we ate

For me it was the egg & grilled tomato sandwich I had every morning in Koh Phangan, & I don't even like tomatoes!

Russell's favourite was a red curry he had in Koh Lanta. We found a really nice restaurant with a great view of the sunset and they were very accommodating to Russell's vegetarian needs. Me & Gemma used to laugh at what he said every day, "can you make it vegetarian? No meat, no fish, maybe a bit of tofu".

Coming up in month 8 - Back to Thailand to do the James Bond Island trip & most importantly meeting Russell's mum & dad for 3 weeks.
