Month 5 in Review

Sawatdee Kaa! Greetings from Chiang Mai, Thailand. On Friday we celebrated our 5 month anniversary of travelling so here's a re-cap of weeks 17 - 20. I am a few days late with this but the last month has been pretty hectic, lots of partying and basically having too much fun with new BFF's to be spending time tapping away on the laptop.

Places visited

India - Palolem, Anjuna & Mandrem (Goa)
Thailand - Bangkok

Favourite place

Definitely Bangkok. If it wasn't for the intense heat I would put it on my very short list of places I could live. We were there 10 days in total - I think we will be doing the Bangkok post in 3 separate posts as so much happened so no need to go into detail now. We had a right time.

Best bits

Russell's 30th birthday celebrations - Russell turned 30 on 25th November and we started celebrating as soon as we arrived in Bangkok - that was on the 21st November. We were out every night drinking buckets of Samsong, making bars play Metallica & Paramore (to name but a few), we got matching heart tattoos at about 3am in the morning, went to a rock bar where the band played happy birthday rock style and lots of stuff we can't even remember. It did get a bit much though, poor Steve at one point looked like he was about to collapse & to quote him, "we've been celebrating your facking birthday for a week mate, I'm exhausted!". Haha!

We're with the band

The first ever Mandrem Run - Now what a day that was. 1 drink in every shack between Mandrem & Arambol. Crazy fun. Russell even lost his flip flops but in true Indian style they were still in the bar where he left them the next day.

The 'posh' hotel - For Russell's birthday I booked us 2 nights at Chatrium Riverside Bangkok. I got us a suite with a river & city view, I didn't tell Russell where I had booked so it was a bit of a surprise. It was awesome! The pool was gorgeous, the room was massive, room service was ace and they even delivered Russell a free birthday cake with candles. We naughtily ended up booking a 3rd night. There will be a blog about this as well soon.

Bad Times

We haven't done too bad this month, the only really bad thing was Russell hurting his foot in Palolem. It was a bad injury and I did have to look after him for a few weeks, it also stopped us doing stuff like going for walks on the beach but hopefully it has taught him a lesson & he'll behave for a bit now :)

Best thing we ate

Russell's was the green papaya salad in the Chatrium Riverside Hotel & mine was the Tom Yum soup I had in a Thai restaurant in......India. No pics though :(

Coming up in month 6 - a bit more in Bangkok then to Chiang Mai & Pai up north then we'll have to do some kinda visa run to Myanmar or we may go to Laos for a week or two before hopefully meeting Sterry in Koh Chang for Xmas (if we can persuade Steve to spend Xmas in Thailand & not Cambodia)
